I am not exaggerating. For local businesses, your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the single most important piece of digital marketing you have. It is free, it directly affects whether customers find you, and most businesses in Dubai are doing it wrong.

Why GBP Matters So Much

When someone in Dubai searches for a service near them, Google shows a map pack with 3 businesses before anything else. Those 3 spots get the majority of clicks. Your GBP is what determines whether you show up there.

Think about your own behaviour. When you search for “coffee shop near me” or “dentist JLT,” you look at the map results first, right? You check the star rating, read a few reviews, look at photos, and then click to call or visit. Your customers do the exact same thing.

The Complete GBP Setup Checklist

Here is everything you need to do, in order:

Claim and verify your listing. If you have not done this, go to business.google.com and claim your business. Verification usually takes a few days.

Fill out every single field. Business name (your legal name, not keyword-stuffed), address, phone number, website, hours, category, and description. Google rewards complete profiles with better visibility.

Write your description strategically. You get 750 characters. Use them to describe what you do, who you serve, and include your area naturally. Something like “We provide accounting services to small businesses in DIFC and Downtown Dubai” is better than “Best accountant in Dubai” stuffed with keywords.

Add high-quality photos. At least 10 photos to start. Include your storefront, interior, team, and products or services. Real photos, not stock images. Businesses with 100+ photos get 520% more calls than those with fewer than 5.

Set up services and products. List every service you offer with a description and price range. This helps Google match you to relevant searches.

Post weekly. Google Business Profile has a posts feature. Use it. Share offers, events, tips, or updates every week. This signals to Google that your business is active and engaged.

Reviews are the deciding factor for most customers in Dubai. A business with 4.8 stars and 200 reviews will almost always win over a business with 4.5 stars and 20 reviews.

How to get more reviews: after every positive interaction, send your customer a direct link to your Google review page via WhatsApp. Do this consistently and you can add 10 to 20 reviews per month.

How to handle negative reviews: respond professionally and promptly. Acknowledge the issue, apologise for their experience, and offer to make it right. Never argue in public. Other customers are reading those responses.

Common Mistakes That Kill Your Ranking

Keyword stuffing your business name. If your business is called “Al Noor Clinic” do not list it as “Al Noor Clinic Best Dermatologist Dubai Skin Specialist.” Google will suspend your listing.

Having multiple listings at the same address. If you run two businesses from one location, each needs a distinct name and phone number.

Ignoring reviews. Unanswered reviews tell customers and Google that you do not care.

Not posting regularly. An inactive profile signals that the business might be closed or not engaged.
